The Power of Positive Reviews

May 21, 2021

Having satisfied customers is obviously a good thing. It brings repeat customers, and improves trust and reputation over time. Having satisfied customers who spread the word? Even better.

How does it work? The power of review is significant on the part of the customer leaving the review because it reinforces his or her belief in your company. By processing thought into words, the positive impression becomes embedded into the mind – solidifying brand loyalty and connection that your customer has over your company that turns him or her into an advocate of your company. More importantly, it becomes a social signal to other people that your company is worthy of their time. In an age where everything is online, it becomes imperative that your company should have positive reviews of your own.

Impact of Electronic Word-of-Mouth (eWOM) Whereas before when a potential customer would do traditional research by asking for recommendations from friends, nowadays, research is just a few clicks away. Meaning, anyone can easily influence another’s decision just by posting or reading something about your product or brand online. Needless to say, the first step to having a positive review is to provide positive service. Once you have that down pat, you are on your way to obtain your positive review. ‍ What’s the first step? Depending on your industry, you may need to list your website or company to industry-relevant rankings. For instance, Yelp is the site to go for restaurants and other local businesses. However, the surefire way of getting reviews is to ask your happiest customers directly. If you don’t ask them, then you’ll never get one.

Just make sure that when you do that, you ask with the right tone (nicely) at the right time (at their convenience) and when they are at their most satisfied, while making the process as easy as possible. Keep in mind that growing your business may be, affected by your ability to gain positive reviews. Akin to a compounding interest, more positive reviews for your company means increased perception of legitimacy and trust over time.
